1. Semi-Aquatic Lifestyle: Hippos are semi-aquatic mammals that spend most of their day submerged in water to keep cool, surfacing every few minutes to breathe.
2. Massive Size: Adult hippos can weigh between 1,500 to 3,200 kilograms (3,300 to 7,100 pounds) and are one of the largest land mammals.
3. Territorial Behavior: Male hippos are very territorial and often engage in aggressive behavior to defend their water territory from rivals.
4. Unique Communication: Hippos communicate through a variety of sounds including grunts, bellows, and wheezes, both in and out of the water.
5. Impressive Teeth: Hippos have large, tusk-like incisors that can grow up to 50 centimeters (20 inches) long. These teeth are used for fighting and dental displays rather than for eating.
6. Diet: Despite their massive size, hippos are herbivores, primarily grazing on grasses. They typically feed at night, consuming up to 40 kilograms (about 88 pounds) of grass in a single night.
7. Skin Adaptations: Hippos secrete a natural sunblock from their skin, which helps protect them from sunburn and keeps their skin moist.

Cormorants being special as always 😮‍💨

Graceful shadows that slip beneath the surface — cormorants are the quiet hunters of the water world.

• Their feathers absorb water instead of repelling it, making them expert divers that glide through the deep with almost no resistance.
• With eyes adapted to see clearly underwater, they strike with precision — catching fish in a flash of movement.
• After the dive, they perch with wings outstretched, not for show — but to dry, recharge, and rise again.

Every movement is purpose. Every dive, a silent masterpiece. 🫶🏼

[BUBO LACTEUS] - one on my bucket list for Uganda 🇺🇬
Owls are very unique to me - many of the are nocturnal, they can fly nearly without making any turbulences or noises. They can be highly social and loving and they can turn there head up to 270 degree!

HARPIA HARPYJA] - Harpy Eagle This special majestic bird lives in Middle- and South America and sadly counts to the endangered species. They’re not only very big with a length from 89 to 110 cm, the wings can be much longer with a wing span up to 2 meters. The bird of prey has also long collars with 7 cm. The genders can be very different especially in weight. The males are lighter with 4 to 4,8 kg, the females on the other hand can weight up to 9 kg.

I went to Ecuador where a Harpy eagle has been flew over from a Germany ZOO to Ecuador for breeding and rewilding. I hope so much that the population if these beauties gets more stable and save in the future

Two Iberian lynxes stepped into view, framed by the ruins of an abandoned place. The sun had dipped below the horizon, and I had to push my camera to the limit. But in that fading light, magic happened. And just as we were heading back home 🫶🏼
Once on the brink of extinction, the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) is now one of the greatest wildlife recovery stories in Europe. • In the early 2000s, fewer than 100 individuals were left in the wild. • Thanks to conservation efforts, that number has grown to over 1,000 today. • Still endangered, their survival depends on continued habitat protection and responsible ecotourism.

• The male Capercaillie can reach up to 100 cm in length, making it one of the largest grouse species in the world.
• During spring mating season, he performs a dramatic display of puffed chest, tail fan, and clicking calls to impress the females.
• Sadly, due to habitat loss and climate change, this majestic bird is now endangered in many parts of Europe.
